Auch hier geht die Sonne im Osten auf – aber sonst ist alles anders. Norden ist Süden und Süden Norden, die Lichtverhältinisse sind komplett verschieden, die Temperaturskala reicht von – 3 bis + 45°. Nachdem ich den Auftrag bekommen hatte, habe ich mehrere Wochen die heimische Pflanzenwelt studiert, in Baumschulen, bei Gärtnern, Farmern und auch in Büchern. Welche Pflanzen halten längere Trockenperioden bei hohen Temperaturen aus, wie schnell wachsen sie, wurzeln sie tief oder breit – das sind die praktischen Erwägungen. Gestalterisch geht es darum, wie die Pflanzen zu der neuen Villa im victorianischen Stil passen, welche im Gegenlicht stehen sollen um abends zu leuchten und welche das Haus vor allem beschatten müssen, um angenehme Temperaturen auch im Sommerhalbjahr – Oktober bis März – zu gewährleisten.

The design is about how the plants fit into the new Victorian-style villa, which should stand against the light to shine in the evening and which must shade the house above all to ensure pleasant temperatures also in the summer half-year – October to March.
Europäische Zierpflanzen, die mediterrane Akkzente schaffen, sind ebenfalls erlaubt und vom Bauherrn gewünscht: Zitronenbäume, Säulenpinien, ein Olivenbaum. Aber alles hat sich in den lokalen Stil zu fügen, der in der weiten Landschaft rund um Melbourne vorherrscht. Die Gartenkunst in Victoria ist hoch entwickelt und immer eine Mischung aus attraktiven heimischen und mediterranen Pflanzen. Viele der historischen Gärten habe ich besucht und mich von ihrem Aufbau inspirieren lassen.

But everything has to fit into the local style that prevails in the wide countryside around Melbourne. The garden art in Victoria is highly developed and always a mixture of attractive local and Mediterranean plants. I have visited many of the historical gardens and have been inspired by their construction.

Zustand bei Planungsbeginn: / Status at the start of planning:
Bei Planungsbeginn steht das Haus auf einem abgeräumten Grundstück ohne Begrünung. Die ebene Fläche bietet die Vorlage für eine grundlegende Gestaltung die dem Haus ein stimmungsvollen Rahmen verschafft, aber auch Schatten und Lichtspiel durch Pflanzen und Blätter. Die Temperaturen können hier immerhin zwischen – 4° und + 42° C betragen.
At the beginning of planning the house stands on a cleared property without vegetation. The flat surface provides the basis for a basic design that provides the house with an atmospheric setting, but also shadows and a play of light through plants and leaves. Die Basis werden einheimisch Pflanzen der Region, sowie mediterrane Gartenpflanzen sein, wie sie in der Gegend um Birreguarra heute typisch sind.

Natürlich gehört auch die technische Planung zum Gesamtprojekt: Licht, Elektrik, Materialien und deren Verarbeitung, sowie – besonders wichtig in diesem Klima – die Planung der manuellen und automatischen Bewässerung durch Sprinkler und Drippingsystem mit Zeitschalter.
